Dobbies Garden Centre, Perimeter Fence, Andover
Client:
Dobbies Garden Centre
Location:
Andover, Hampshire
Duration:
1st February 2021 - 10th February 2021
Type:
Replace/Upgrade Commercial Project
The Background
Stonehenge Fencing & Landscape was approached by Dobbies Garden Centre for new fencing, as their old fence needed replacing. Given that the majority of the fence was severely decayed, the site's security was at serious risk. Hence, we did not only replace the fence but also carried out health and safety risk assessments and the necessary method statements prior to completing the work.
The Solution
We installed a 130m perimeter fence for the Andover based Dobbies Garden Centre. The client chose their own specifications using 150mm x 22mm boards with a 2-inch gap between each board.
Due to the garden centre needing to water plants heavily during the summer, the bottom end of the yard was extremely wet. Therefore, Stonehenge Fencing & Landscape chose to use concrete posts and gravel boards instead of timber to avoid rotting. We used 9ft long concrete posts for a 6ft finished height, allowing us 3ft in the ground. This was enough to ensure a solid and secure fence.
The most challenging part of the project besides the short timescale was that the garden centre remained open to the public during the work. This meant that we needed to take extra care to ensure public safety. For this reason, all working areas were barrier taped and all staff were required to wear PPE at all times.
The Result or Feedback
Dobbies were very pleased with the outcome and thanked Stonehenge Fencing & Landscape for carrying out the work in such a short timescale.
Since working for the Andover branch, we have been asked to quote for work at other Dobbies sites including Aylesbury, Beaconsfield and Keston.
